Frequently Asked Questions

Are you A Freudian?

This is a common question. Many times this is another way of asking, “is my therapist going to gaze at me with a silent condeming stare while I squirm in discomfort not knowing what to say?” This is not my style. My sessions are lively and interactive, because I believe through interaction people experience the play that allows them to become reacquainted with themselves.

Do you accept insurance? What are your fees?

Most of my clients use some of type of insurance to defray the cost of psychotherapy.  I provide billing statements for clients who have out-of-network benefits. In some cases, I am able to negotiate lower rates for people who find my fee would create a hardship, and you should feel free to inquire about this. If we are not able to reach an agreement that fits your budget I will provide you with alternate referrals.

Will medication be part of the treatment?

My perspective is that you possess the resources you need to take care of yourself and get the most out of life. In cases of sleep deprivation, suicidality or other real health and safety issues, medication can be a important part of treatment and indeed for some people it has allowed them to get their life back. But too often, medication has been used in a way that sends the opposite message — that you, or your brain, somehow lack the basic capacity with which to enjoy life. I support my clients in actually experiencing emotional self mastery.
